Playful Morning Routines
Good Morning Sunshines!
Today I wanted to share with you some ideas surrounding morning routines.
“Morning routine” has become such a buzz word and marketing phrase over the last few years. It is in EVERYONE'S advice, but what does it really mean?
To me having a morning routine is an absolute must of course! That being said your routine should really be special for you and not a bullet point list you found online. Your morning routine should really ignite your day. It should help you focus on what is important in your life. News flash, it does not have to include making your bed and meditating for 20 minutes.
I do personally advocate for meditation but if it isn’t on your list that is okay. You don’t see me making my bed everyday!
My point is that you should do what feels good for you. You can absolutely color, draw, do a brain game, dance or cuddle a pet. All of these things are beautifully acceptable habits. I invite you to get creative. What fun thing do you want to make time for? Perfect, Now add it in!
For me personally I have had so many different evolutions of my morning routine since I started being intentional with my time. It started with waking up early, making the bed, and getting ready for work. I also went to the gym first thing. Somewhere in the middle I added an emphasis on journaling, meditation, mantras, and yoga because I wanted to focus on my mental health. . Nowadays I feel myself being pulled into a different direction simply because my life has changed. I have changed. It is completely acceptable to change your habits as you evolve as a person. As your needs change, so will your behavior.
It is just important that you are intentional with your time in the morning because it sets you up for the rest of your day.
So the punchline is this. PLAY! I have found that my rigid schedule worked to build the habits I have and those habits have served their purpose. Live, Learn, and Let go. Today, I am less interested in a strict schedule and more interested in adding more joyful moments to my day.
I have had a come to Goddess moment. In true Nikki fashion I have decided to do something that might be a bit unconventional. I have been inspired to incorporate dance into my mornings. Like writing a love letter to my life everyday. I meet myself in my home and I vow to dance until I can’t help but burst with laughter. What a delicious way to start the day?!
I have a tendency to take things a bit too seriously but I love play and laughter. I crave it. I think many of us crave belly laughs and simple joys. That is why I have decided to dance. For me dancing makes me smile. It loosens up my body and allows me to literally shake the stress away. I find that by the end of a dance session I am smiling, sweating, and filled with gratitude and hope for the day.
There are many incredible benefits to dancing of course.
Dancing is known to improve your memory, aid in weight loss, lower blood sugar levels, lower stress levels, lower blood pressure. If you want to get down and dirty with it (pun intended!) shaking your hips can help shake out generational trauma. It can help people overcome the lasting effects of sexual and and physical abuse. It can also help boost confidence and energy levels throughout the day. Certain moves aid in increasing libido and fertility. It is also just FUN AS HELL.
So Yeah I am Woman and I Dance for Myself. I Dance for ALL Women.
With Love,
Nikki
